How can the colour of the sky and the tone of trees suggest a mood? Can you feel the scene outside the frame? The splashing of water in a bath and the cry of an overtired baby? Or can you feel the pause, when everyone stops to look at the blue sky out the window, humming. Bath Time Gums 5.56pm is a small work on paper from a developing series of quick, sketch-like paintings that trace the shifting colour and light over the span of a day. Using thinned down, deep-green acrylic paint, the work becomes like an ink drawing. Painted with fluid, fast gestures while embracing the slow restraint of domestic views.
