Amalia Keefer is a Gold Coast-based visual artist, working predominantly on the traditional lands of the Yugambeh People. Exploring the fluctuating tendencies of human emotion in her paintings, Keefer is guided intuitively by how she feels and what she sees in the moment, rather than painting from a place of aesthetic premeditation. Keefer’s kaleidoscopic scapes are representative of what impacts her daily life; the colour palettes of her work and its abstract forms are reference points to the collected images of her visual experiences, with textiles, objects, her natural surroundings and emotional memory inadvertently shaping her practice. By documenting feelings and experiences in their realistic, unrefined state, Keefer questions our reliance on rigid structure to understand artistic language, ultimately emphasising its intention of subjective translation.
