Hannah Maskell lives in Melbourne’s Western suburbs. She is an abstract artist, whose drawing practice has evolved into painting and sculpture, focusing on intuitive play with colour, line and pattern. The structure of the grid is a strong recurring theme in her work. She has a BA Fine Arts (Drawing) from the VCA, 2013, where she was awarded the Gary Grossbard Drawing Award in 2012, and the Stellar Dilger Award in 2011. She attended the Fine Arts Study Tour to New York with RMIT in 2011, and completed a Certificate IV in Visual Arts and Contemporary Crafts from Brighton Bay School of Art, Design and Photography in 2009. Group shows include Gesture, Clutter, Forever, Seventh Gallery, 2014, Rose Coloured Glass The Honeymoon Suite, 2016, The Subjectivity of Looking, LON gallery, 2022, and in Springtime Volume 5, Backwoods Gallery, 2023. In 2018 she had her first solo exhibition, Broken Record at Five Walls Gallery. More recently, in 2022, Maskell released a book, Double Violet Continued with Stray Pages publishing, and in 2023 her studio and practice were profiled on The Design Files.
