We pack a lunch and eat it on the shoreline. The sun is warm but the wind is cold. He, as always, falls asleep after lunch. I wait (not so) patiently. Sophia Mary Mac is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Northern Rivers / on Bundjalung Country. She primarily works with oil paint and fine-line ink drawings. Her work explores visceral memory, using painting as a cathartic process to linger within memories and the passage of time. Sophia aims to highlight the spaces and moments in between, a kind of limbo or mundane purgatory. Her practice invites viewers to reflect on the subtle transitions and quiet interludes that make up our everyday lives.
