These two works are a part of a larger body that was very much a journal and keepsake of a place where words were unreachable and where making became a cathartic response to my own surroundings and physical existence. Working at home amongst the equal chaos and quietness of new life inescapably made its way into these paintings. As I watched my new baby meet the world I thought about my own early memories and the colours within them. Attempting to work in my usual way whilst simultaneously experiencing such an intense moment in life felt like an abstract dream in itself. To me these paintings feel like a map of a very specific and special time. Born in Wollongong, Sarah Darling now lives and works in Lismore in the Northern Rivers. Sarah graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor in Interior and Spatial Design (UTS) and then in 2019 completed a Bachelor of Fine Art (SCU and COFA) where she majored in painting and sculpture. Her painting practice involves working with colour and abstract forms, often in large scale works. Sarah creates intuitively and her projects are often material led. They are as much about process as they are about outside inspiration. Sarah enjoys creating conversations between colours and mixing colours in unconventional ways.
