We walk through white and yellow sand. When we stop to rest, they both fall asleep around me like a warm cocoon of safety. I sit and watch. I sit and listen. My mind goes quiet for a brief few minutes. Sweet relief. Sophia Mary Mac is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Northern Rivers / on Bundjalung Country. She primarily works with oil paint and fine-line ink drawings. Her work explores visceral memory, using painting as a cathartic process to linger within memories and the passage of time. Sophia aims to highlight the spaces and moments in between, a kind of limbo or mundane purgatory. Her practice invites viewers to reflect on the subtle transitions and quiet interludes that make up our everyday lives.
