We drive through Tweed Heads after work. The moon is up early and the clouds are fluorescent. Mel is driving, so I share an intimate moment with the moon. I later see that everybody has posted the same moon on their instagram. Sophia Mary Mac is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Northern Rivers / on Bundjalung Country. She primarily works with oil paint and fine-line ink drawings. Her work explores visceral memory, using painting as a cathartic process to linger within memories and the passage of time. Sophia aims to highlight the spaces and moments in between, a kind of limbo or mundane purgatory. Her practice invites viewers to reflect on the subtle transitions and quiet interludes that make up our everyday lives.
